Attorney, Larry J. Mayer established his own practice in Colorado in 1995, and in Virginia in 2002. Since moving to Virginia, his practice has become more diverse to include commercial and business law, estate planning, securities trading, and family law. He has experience in representing a broad range of business clients, from serving as special legal counsel for two mid-west banks to assisting many small local businesses. He has negotiated contracts for buyers and sellers of multi-million dollar corporate jets to lease agreements for local businesses.
As an adoptive father himself, Mr. Mayer well understands the emotions of those seeking to adopt a child. Over the past decade, he has represented dozens of clients in adoption cases, including interstate adoptions,) and has had, for many years, represented children in foster care. He has also volunteered his services for many years as an instructor for families seeking to qualify as adoptive parents.
In 1996, he established an attorney-client relationship with a Colorado-based securities trading firm for which he provided legal services in establishing and maintaining unique banking and institutional investment advisor relationships. That long-lasting and long-distant client relationship endured for over twenty years.
Most of his local clients in the Winchester and surrounding areas include individuals seeking assistance in estate planning, as well as entrepreneurs and small business operators, whom he assists in establishing and maintaining their businesses. Mr. Mayer provides legal services in Frederick, Warren, Shenandoah, and Clarke counties.
EDUCATION , EMPLOYMENT, AND LEGAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Mayer holds a Juris Doctor degree, earned in 1992 from Widener University School of Law, in Wilmington, DE, with undergraduate education in Aeronautical Science and Business Administration – Finance.
Prior to law school, Mr. Mayer worked for several years with the Cessna Aircraft Company in New Jersey and North Carolina before being recruited to a position with a subsidiary of Key Bank, N.A. in Boston.
Mr. Mayer has been admitted to practice law in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. His career includes internships with the US Department of Justice (Civil Division) and the Office of the Chief Counsel for the Federal Aviation Administration. Shortly after leaving law school, he worked as a litigation attorney for a Philadelphia personal injury firm before moving to Boulder, Colorado, where he spent considerable time working on aviation-related litigation cases in Denver.
Following his graduation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1980, Mr. Mayer worked as a commerial pilot in the general aviation industry for several years prior to law school. Capitalizing on his undergraduate aviation degree and experience as a commercial pilot, Mr. Mayer’s legal experience has included working as an attoney in technical litigation support for air crash cases, as well as the representation of clients in aircraft transactions and US registration and title services for domestic and foreign aircraft owners. He served actively engaged in the aviation industry, as a volunteer for the Virginia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, the auxiliary of the US Air Force, as legal counsel and mentoring the youth of the cadet program.
Mr. Mayer enjoys church and community-related activities, home projects and travel vacations with his family.
